Puddings are most commonly associated with rich, sweet desserts but they can also be of savoury nature. In the United States, puddings may be referred to as a sweet milk based dessert similar in texture to that of a baked custard or it may also be a type of bread or rice pudding. The word pudding is believed to have originated from the French word 'Boudin' meaning small sausages as puddings were originally made encased meat in Medieval European puddings.
